Role Description

Complete Communication Ltd provides academic support to students in receipt of Disabled Student Allowance (DSA). We are passionate about providing high-quality support workers who can help to make a difference to our students studying higher education courses throughout the UK.

With recent and continued expansion, we are looking to expand the wealth of knowledge that we have with highly qualified and experienced specialist support staff. The role that we are currently looking for is a Specialist Mentor – Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC).

Your Role

Within your role you will be providing one to one support which will be specifically tailored and highly specialist. This will help students address the barriers to learning that this particular impairment can create. Each student will have different issues which can vary from time management, coping in stressful situations, dealing with anxiety, how to deal with concentration difficulties, prioritising workload and creating an effective work-life balance.

Your role is to help students recognise and understand the barriers to learning created by their impairment. You will help the students develop strategies to address these barriers which will be particularly beneficial at times of transition, e.g. when starting university or planning to move on from it.

The frequency and need for this support will vary for each student. Some students will require ongoing support whilst others might only require it at certain parts of their course.

All candidates will have in-depth knowledge in supporting an individual with a particular disability whilst also being able to draw from experience.

An understanding of the demands associated with higher education study will be demonstrated. Relationships inside and outside of the institution will be maintained in order to establish a close working relationship with other support services the student maybe using, as well as allowing recognition for when and if there is a need to refer to other services.

Your Qualifications/training

  • Any degree AND Comprehensive training in adult autism
  • A relevant degree and relevant CPD in past two years.
  • A Post Graduate Certificate (PGC) in Autism or Asperger’s and relevant CPD in the two years preceding application.
  • A Master of Arts /Education (MA /MEd) in Education (Autism or Special Educational Needs and Disability or Critical Disability Studies focussing on autism) and relevant CPD in the two years preceding application

The working hours vary according to the needs of the student and their academic timetable. All support workers are paid on a self-employed basis whereby they are responsible for paying their own NI contributions and tax.
