Role Description

Complete Communication Ltd provides academic support to students in receipt of Disabled Student Allowance (DSA). We are passionate about providing high-quality support workers who can help to make a difference to our students studying higher education courses throughout the UK.

With recent and continued expansion, we are looking to expand the wealth of knowledge that we have with highly qualified and experienced specialist support staff. The role that we are currently looking for is a Specialist one-to-one Study Skills and Strategy Support – Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD).

Your Role

Your role will require you to provide specialist one to one study skills support in accordance with the students programme of work and assessment schedule. This support will be based on your understanding of the students specific learning difficulties, their disabilities and any medical or mental health conditions that they may have. We will also provide you with additional information from assessment reports, where appropriate to assist you with your role, especially as each student’s needs and requirements will differ.

The aim is to encourage independent learning by developing strategies and techniques to help the student with independence during their studies. You will be required to complete and update individual learning plans for each student. This will be used alongside sessions to help assist your role and will be a place to document any coping mechanisms implemented to help the student overcome any difficulties they maybe facing.

All candidates will have in-depth knowledge in supporting an individual with a particular disability whilst also being able to draw from experience.

An understanding of the demands associated with higher education study will be demonstrated. Relationships inside and outside of the institution will be maintained in order to establish a close working relationship with other support services the student maybe using, as well as allowing recognition for when and if there is a need to refer to other services.

You will be able to liaise and work with students tutors/lecturers where necessary, to ensure that appropriate provisions are in place for assessments and that support provided is in line with curriculum requirements.

Your Qualifications/training

You will be educated to degree level (2:1 or above only) with a degree in psychology, social work or other relevant topic. You must also possess a professional membership that will also qualify you to apply for this post, namely:

  • The Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties (PATOSS) Full or associate membership
  • British Dyslexia Association (BDA) – Full professional membership
  • The Association of Dyslexia Specialists in Higher Education (ADSHE) – Professional membership
  • Dyslexia Guild:
  • Associate Member (ADG)
  • Associate Member (ADG FE/HE)
  • Member (MDG)
  • Fellow (FDG)

The working hours vary according to the needs of the student and their academic timetable. All support workers are paid on a self-employed basis whereby they are responsible for paying their own NI contributions and tax.
