‘Stranger’ things have happened at Complete Communication

What is your name?

Shannon Griffin

What role do you do?

I work as a Finance and Accounts administrator, performing many finances-related tasks. One of the things I do is communicate with our clients relating to their support provision, timesheets, invoices, and other related topics.

A timesheet is just a way for clients and support professionals to confirm sessions took place to assist with pulling funding down from the related funders. Within my role, I’m responsible for ensuring that our clients and support professionals are able to access our systems and support them on the rare occasions challenges arise. This can be anything from resetting logins to supporting a client with a visual impairment to access our accessibility tools within the system. The last thing our clients need is extra stress on top of their studies or employment, so by reaching out about it opens a line of communication.

Another area of my role is processing Invoices and tracking clients’ budgets. So, after a timesheet is signed, I can send it off with an invoice to their funding body, which ultimately enables the support to be reimbursed for. It also allows us to see a realistic figure of the client’s budget.

Why did you choose this role?

I chose this role because I enjoy being behind the scenes but still making an impact in helping people. I chose Complete Communication because of their dedication to creating a world where deaf and disabled people feel valued and equal and provide services that can make a huge difference in people’s lives.

What do you enjoy the most about your role?

I enjoy that at the end of the day, I have been productive, and I have helped people, whether that’s just making sure their budget is up to date or making sure that everyone who has taken the time to support others has been paid. I always feel good about what I’ve done, as unlike other sectors within finance, you don’t get the same feel-good factor because you don’t help people in that way.

That and I get to talk all things, ‘Stanger things’ with one of the directors.

What are your favourite aspects of being part of the office team?

The office team is full of friendly and very funny people, everyone here is a little weird in the best of ways, and the environment created is such a positive one to be in. I have worked in a few different working environments, and this one is by far the nicest one to be in. Everyone is treated with respect and always full of laughter and positive energy.

What is your favourite moment/story from within the office?

I have only been here a short while, but one of my favourite moments was when we were all asked to get up and demonstrate how we skipped, as some people apparently forget how to skip. It was such a bizarre thing to happen, and I know situations like that only happen in offices like this one. Very uniquely weird in all the right ways.

Any tips or advice you would share with those in similar roles?

Double-check everything you do; it is better to take more time and get things right the first time than prioritising speed because, overall, the mistakes that could be prevented with a double-check can take much longer to fix afterwards.
